The client’s objective was clear: to expand the existing structure with new, state-of-the-art spaces capable of meeting the highest international market standards (Netflix, HBO, Sky).

The intervention involved the comprehensive design of a new building adjacent to the current facility. The centerpiece of the project is the new Theatrical Mix room, flanked by four dubbing suites, one of which is configured for 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos.

Technical Excellence

The primary goal was to merge extreme functionality with peak acoustic performance:

  • Total Acoustic Isolation: despite being adjacent, the rooms guarantee perfect isolation, allowing for simultaneous work sessions without any interference.
  • Dolby Atmos Technology: meticulous design of volumes and speaker positioning for the Atmos rooms ensures official Dolby listing and absolute sonic accuracy.
  • Electroacoustic Integration: the Theatrical Mix room is equipped with Meyer Sound systems (Acheron for LCR channels, HMS10 for surrounds and ceiling), while the dubbing suites rely on the precision of Genelec monitoring.

Design Concept

While the brief called for a practical and functional space, Studio Sound Service gave the project a distinct aesthetic identity. The graphic concept draws inspiration from the client’s passion for the sea:

  • Shades of Blue: a color palette ranging from slate grey to deep ocean blue characterizes the environments.
  • Architectural Dynamism: in the Atmos room, a series of colored, backlit slats against a light background creates movement and depth, transforming a technical space into a welcoming and dynamic environment.
  • Custom Furniture: the mixing desk and lecterns were custom-designed and adapted to integrate perfectly with the acoustic treatment, eliminating unwanted reflections and optimizing workflow.

Collaboration and Synergy

The success of the project is the result of a coordinated team effort led by SSS, collaborating closely with architects Martina Messi and Manuel Mazzaroni, long-standing partners such as Acusticarte for the construction and Dolby for system commissioning.

Despite structural challenges—such as the limited ceiling height in the Theatrical room, overcome through millimeter-precise aiming and calibration—the final result provides CD Cine Dubbing with a bespoke space tailored for major international productions.
