Studio Sound Service handled the acoustic consulting and design for the new Mount Etna Museum, part of an ambitious redevelopment project that transformed the former Vittorio Emanuele II Hospital in Catania into a Cultural and Museum Center of excellence. The acoustic intervention had to address the unique challenges of a 19th-century historic building, combining respect for the original structure with the acoustic requirements of a modern museum space. The design included differentiated solutions for the various functional areas: in traditional exhibition spaces, discreet acoustic treatments were implemented and integrated with the setup to ensure clarity and intelligibility, while in dynamic public spaces, solutions were adopted that respect the visibility of pre-existing architectural volumes, such as the characteristic vaults. Special attention was dedicated to interactive and multimedia spaces, where noise control and listening quality play a fundamental role in the visitor experience. The acoustic intervention integrated harmoniously with the architectural project by Guicciardini & Magni Architects and with the lighting design by Arch. Massimo Iarussi, contributing to the creation of an immersive and functional museum environment that enhances the cultural heritage of the Etna territory.
