Shibuya Studios represents a perfect example of a contemporary music production hub. Designed as a multi-studio complex that will expand to accommodate new rooms in the future, the space was created to meet the needs of modern producers and artists, offering multifunctional, high-performance environments. For Shibuya Studios, Studio Sound Service designed the acoustic isolation and acoustic treatment for Giacomo Scalvi's room, crafting an ideal workspace for extended production sessions.

1. Acoustic isolation and Multi-Room logic

In modern production studios, workflow concurrency is key. The main priority for the acoustic isolation was to ensure that multiple producers could work simultaneously in different production rooms, handling different high-volume audio content without any mutual interference. The isolation was custom-calibrated to guarantee maximum operational autonomy between the spaces without unnecessary over-engineering.

2. Design and aesthetic concept
The room’s aesthetics take inspiration from contemporary Japan, integrating a clean, essential, and rigorous design:

  • Essential geometries and lines: the layout of the room is defined by straight, essential lines. The walls feature two main horizontal lines that visually connect the front wall with the ceiling.

  • Neutral tones and visual comfort: the color palette uses neutral tones paired with warm lighting. This choice stems from the need to create a comfortable, ergonomic working environment designed to host artists and engineers for long, continuous hours without visual fatigue.

3. Acoustics and engineering
Behind the minimal aesthetics lies an advanced acoustic architecture:

  • Hidden Low-Frequency systems: the room’s "acoustic engine" relies on our custom membrane front resonators, seamlessly hidden within both the walls and the ceiling clouds.
  • Rear diffusion and absorption: installed on the back wall is a signature SSS-designed hybrid absorber-diffuser. This element features a slatted structure with sound-absorbing material in the gaps, allowing sound waves to pass through and be absorbed by the powerful systems behind it. Since the rear wall is crucial for managing low-frequency room response, this hybrid approach (diffusion combined with strong absorption) ensures optimal bass control and an extremely precise, balanced acoustic response.
