Minimalist spaces, three-dimensional depth, and Dolby Atmos Certification for the future of Post-Audio.

The Project 

Studio Sound Service managed the acoustic and interior design of the new Rome-based studios for Soundbar (a historic post-production company formerly known as Beep). The project involved the realization of a new Dolby Atmos Home Entertainment Mixing Room – which inherits and optimizes the widely acclaimed dimensional and performance features of the previous room designed by SSS in Via Margutta – as well as a complete Dubbing Suite, consisting of a control room and a live room.

Acoustic Design & Interior 

The aesthetic concept focuses on essential and minimalist lines, which nevertheless reveal a highly complex geometry through the acoustic treatment. The signature design element features a series of geometric channels and curbs running across both the ceiling and walls, created by combining multiple broken elements of fabric-wrapped sound-absorbing material.

The color interplay of the multi-layered panels serves a dual purpose: it delivers strong aesthetic value while providing a true sense of visual three-dimensionality to the space. This design technique allows the user to visually perceive the depth and significance of the underlying acoustic treatment, which might otherwise appear as a flat, continuous surface.

In the Dubbing Suite, the color palette shifts to introduce a bold electric blue on the rear walls of both the control room and the live room. This adds extra character, visual depth, and a distinctive identity to the workspace.

Technical Infrastructure & Monitoring 

To guarantee maximum accuracy during critical listening sessions and ensure full compliance with Dolby standards, the studio was equipped with a top-tier monitoring system by Genelec:

• LCR (Fronts): Genelec S360A, delivering impeccable dynamics and precision.

• Subwoofer: Genelec 7382A, for absolute control over low frequencies.

• Surround & Overhead: Genelec 8340A, seamlessly integrated into the SAM (Smart Active Monitor) ecosystem for a millimeter-accurate calibration of the Atmos environment.
